Jareesh holds a distinctive space on the Saudi table. It is a national dish in Saudi Arabia, as mothers and grandmothers have passed its secrets down the generations. Also, it is a famous dish during the holy month of Ramadan; it’s one of the main courses on every happy occasion.
Jareesh consists of cracked wheat, yogurt, meat, or chicken. Some areas like to add crushed tomatoes to give the mixture a beautiful red color.
Over the stove, add the cracked wheat and the yogurt in a pot and stir using a cooking wood spoon called “Miswat.” Then, add the meat or chicken. After hours of cooking, pour the mixture on a plate and add the ghee or butter alongside dried lemon on top.
You can try the different options of Jareesh at All Saudi Restaurant.
