Religious and Historical Significance

At the foot of Uhud, one of the greatest battles of Islam, the Battle of Uhud took place. Seventy of the companions, including the Master of Martyrs, Hamza ibn Abdulmuttalib, may Allah be pleased with him, were martyred in this battle.

The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, often referred to it as an example of magnitude. For instance, commending his companions, he said, “Do not revile my companions, for if one of you were to spend as much gold as Uhud, it would not amount to a handful spent by one of them or even half of it."

Overview

The mountain is approximately 4 km north of the Prophet's Mosque. It was given this name due to its isolation from the surrounding mountains, so it stands separate from the rest of the mountains.

This mountain extends as a chain from east to west and slants north. It has the following estimated proportions:

  • Length: 7 km

  • Width: 2-3 km

  • Height: up to 1,077 m
