Did you know that Bani Unaif Mosque was built to honor the very spot where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prayed?
Tucked away in the historic quarters of Al Madinah, Bani Unaif Mosque is a hidden gem with deep spiritual significance. Located southwest of Quba Mosque, it was originally built by the Bani Unaif tribe, a branch of Banu Baliah, near their stronghold. The mosque holds historical value as it marks the place where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once prayed while visiting Talha ibn Al-Bara’ during his illness. Out of reverence, the tribe preserved the site and later constructed a mosque...
The original structure, crafted from black basalt stones, withstood the passage of time, though only remnants remained before recent renovations. Under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Historical Mosques Care Program, the mosque was restored while preserving its authentic character. Today, its open-roof design, wooden beams supporting the historic walls, and soft lantern lighting recreate the essence of early Islamic architecture. The white marble flooring contrasts beautifully with the dark volcanic rock, offering visitors a serene and immersive spiritual experience.
